About If it didn't work for Lincoln why would it work for Obama

If it didn't work for Lincoln why would it work for Obama?
Lincoln's argument was a sort of primitive foreshadowing of today's Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP. While Democrats all the way up to President Andrew Jackson were demonizing the banks, Lincoln maintained that the way to save the system was to pump more money into it. He was convinced that once confidence was restored and commerce began humming again, the public works — roads, canal routes, widened rivers and rail lines — that seemed so expensive during the slump would repay their cost many times over. In his folksy way, he compared a stalled economy to a steam engine and thus summed up the idea we now call stimulus. At the engine's "dead point," Lincoln said, even a single turn is "extremely difficult." But jolt it back to life, and it quickly regains momentum. Then "all will be well again." He wasn't entirely successful, and in the short term, Lincoln's vision saddled Illinois with a heavy public debt. But he carried lessons from that experience into his far more famous fights against slavery and for the Union. Lincoln's presidency worked an unprecedented economic transformation on the country. For the first time, the Federal Government taxed income, floated bonds on a large scale and issued paper currency. http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1877093_1877109_1877111-4,00.html herb........unfortunately "hoping" something will happen does not make it happen. History, on the other hand, could be used as a learning tool so that we don't make the same mistakes again.

About Why won't my brake lights and turn signals work on my 94 Lincoln Continental

Why won't my brake lights and turn signals work on my 94 Lincoln Continental?
I've checked all the fuses and bulbs. I've also replaced the brake light switch. When the headlights are on, the front turn signals will just stay on and nothing will come on in the rear. None of the relays (has a clear window in the top to check to see if they're blown) seem to be malfunctioning. What kind of "switches" am I looking for under the dash? I have checked all accessible fuses and relays.
Lincoln - 8 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
take it ti a car fixer, tey will tell u in two sec
Answer 2 :
probably one of those many relays in black boxes under hood. (right up top) try tapping them to find the bad one.
Answer 3 :
Have you checked the fuses????
Answer 4 :
Here's another suggestion: check the hazard/turn/brake switch in the steering column. You probably never notice the hazard problem since you don't use it much. In my 96 Contour, the hazard went out, but the turn signal still works. Then the turn signals AND the brake lights went out together (except the middle one). My mechanic checked the wiring diagram and pulled the steering column open, and pulled out the "wedge" thing that controls everything. It's about $150. I suspect you ran into something similar.
Answer 5 :
pls check your relays. when the relay gets hot the tendency is to malfunction. try to replace it w/ a new one.
Answer 6 :
All these circuits run through the multi-function switch, which is probably 12 yrs. old.Listen to what KaseyC. is saying.
Answer 7 :
Your are looking at a web of cables, switches, and relays like someone else said. Well, if nothing else, the break fluid pump has a switch that when a little old, it corrodes and causes for the amps to cross over. Before spending $150.00 bucks, this is easier and cheaper to check and repair. Although the part can cost a few bucks because the switch must be replaced. If this happens to be the problem, you could end up paying an honest mechanic around $75 bucks for labor and parts.
Answer 8 :
Relays don't 'blow' which is why they don't have a clear window. Fuses blow, and sometimes do have a clear window. No relay affects brake lights or turn signals. With only the front lights coming on, there isn't enough draw in the circuit without the brake lights to run flasher. If the bulbs and fuses are all good, the only other possibility would be a broken wire somewhere in the wiring harness going to the brake light circuit. Best checked in a good repair shop rather than trying to guess at home. Quit throwing money at it replacing things that probably were okay to begin with, and take it in

About will a smaller engine work in my lincoln

will a smaller engine work in my lincoln?
i have a 91 lincoln town car signature series and it has a 4.6l modular v8 and i was wonering if i could put a smaller engine in it like a 6 or maybe even a 4 cylinder for better gas milage and i can find parts alot easier will this work or not please explain
Maintenance & Repairs - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Whoa! no i would NOT go near a v6 or 4cyl with that big body american sedan...it's too heavy for anything less that what it has... maybe think of rebuilding the engine or giving it the best tune up yet... If you drop in a V6 or 4cyl you'll end up using justas much gas trying to get it up to speed with other traffic on streets and even worse on freeways Best wishes! "/JOe
Answer 2 :
You can but it would be good for runs to the store, I wouldnt want to take it on the E - way.
Answer 3 :
Your Lincoln Town Car is properly powered with the 4.6 engine. Replacing that with a smaller engine would require major modifications, since you have the issue of computer engine control, matching up to the existing transmission, motor mounts, and so on. Besides that, a smaller engine in such a large car might require that you put a huge sail on the roof in order to get the car to move decently. The Town Car is a full sized sedan weighing in at around two tons. Don't expect a smaller engine to do anything for you in terms of efficiency, since any smaller engine would work itself to the limits simply moving the car

About How can i get my subs to work in my 93 lincoln town car

How can i get my subs to work in my 93 lincoln town car?
I have a kenwood deck, and had to connect every speaker individually. It has a factory amp, but was trying to bypass. All the wires are connected but i have no bass.
Car Audio - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
do you have an amp between the deck and the subs? if not, then you won't hear anything
Answer 2 :
Are you trying to power a sub with the head unit's internal amp? NOT going to work. That's fine for the door speakers, but not a sub. What you need to do is get yourself a decent amp and an amp wiring kit. Run RCA patch cables from the HU to the amp, a power cable from the batter to the amp and a ground cable from the amp to the cars' metal body. Then, run heavy speaker cable from the amp to the sub. That should get you going

About What's the best way to get from Oak Park to Lincoln Park on the train

What's the best way to get from Oak Park to Lincoln Park on the train?
I live in Oak Park, one block from the green line on Lake St. and I work in Lincoln Park, a block from the the Purple/Brown/Red lines that are on Fullerton. I wanted to know what's the best and quickest way to get to the work during the evening before 7pm. Also, how long would the ride be with the transfers between trains? Thanks.
Chicago - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
The CTA Trip Planner will give you detailed travel instructions based on exact addresses (or cross streets/points of interest), times, and etc. See http://www.transitchicago.com/travel_information/trip_planner.aspx . I use this one regularly - http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/ . You can choose various options to see if you can get quicker travel times. UPDATE: Yet the most likely "best" route would be to take the Green Line (Downtown/Loop) to Clark & Lake and transfer to the Brown Line. Take the Brown Line (Kimball direction) to Fullerton. Yet for exact timing, you'd have to see the links above.
Answer 2 :
You actually have a few options. You could take the Green Line to Clark/Lake and switch to the Brown Line. To do so, you will have to change platforms (there are stairs that lead to a walkway over the tracks). You might also be able to take the Purple Line, which would not require changing platforms, but will take you around the loop before heading back north. Another option would be to take the Green Line to State/Lake and change to the Red Line there. I would plan on the trip taking around 45 minutes. UPDATE: After giving it some thought, I really think that taking the Green Line to the Red Line would probably be best for a couple of reasons. For one thing, the Red Line has more frequent service than the Brown Line. Also, when you return it will be easier to take the Red Line because you would have to take the Brown Line all the way around the loop to get back to Clark/Lake (although you could transfer at any station on Wabash or Lake, you would still be going all the way around for nothing). As it turns out, the trip planner agrees

About Which is the best car dealership to work for

Which is the best car dealership to work for?
I have an offer to work with Lincoln in sales doing leads for internet sales with three or more other people besides all the workers on the floor. I also have an option to work for Ford, Chevy, or Dodge Chrysler. Are there any Car salesman or anyone with knowledge of the Auto industry that can recommend the right company out the ones I listed? Thanks everyone for your help.
Buying & Selling - 8 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I am not a car salesman, but I have to comment on this. Read the Edmunds.com "Confessions of a Car Salesman." It will open your eyes to the kind of person who ends up in that business. Go to school and look to improve yourself on some other level. Get a job in another industry.
Answer 2 :
Sorry, I did new car sales for two months, money was good, but I found all the subterfuge in dealing with customers was distasteful. so I Quit.
Answer 3 :
you can make good money selling cars but its a tough business make sure you are working for a dealership that does alot of advertising and sells at least 100 cars a month never go for the small dealerships if its money and longevity you want then sell hondas or toyotas it will take about 3 years to be sucessful on a monthly basis
Answer 4 :
I don't think the car make is the difference. I think it's the dealer. The guys whose name is on the sign. If he runs a good clean honest shop that's the guy to work for. There may not be many honest dealers out there, some dealers use unsavory tactics behind the scenes to manipulate the deal and his employees are caught in the game. But I'm sure there are some dealers with integrity that are good to work for. I don't think the make of cars they sell really matters.
Answer 5 :
Do your research and find out which manufacturer has the best sales record and increase in sales over the last three years. Then look at the projections for that manufacturer for the next three years. When you have that information review the manufacturer's customer satisfaction index (CSI) to see how pleased the customers are in their ownership experience. Finally, get the CSI for sales and service from any dealership you are considering. The key point is this; you will work the same number of hours aat whichever dealership you choose. Working for the best will give you greater peace of mind and more money. Also, talk to the salespeople, talk to the manager, ask for sale stats and earnings for the salespeole. You have a right to know this information. If they will not share at least a general picture of that with you don't work for them. besttoyou, Chuck The Car Guy (30 years-thousands of deals) www.thebestdealofyourlife.com
Answer 6 :
Of the brands you listed you'd do best selling Chevy. Ford second. Dodge/Chrysler a distant third. I've sold all of them. Unfortunately I sold Dodge the longest but only because the dealership allowed me to do as I pleased regarding sales techniques and hours. Chevy sees 3 times the floor traffic as Dodge. More traffic = more opportunity.
Answer 7 :
If you lived where I live you would not want to be selling a Dodge or any other Mopar. I have owned a Mopar of some kind for the last 35 yrs, but the dealership in my town has been the worst people to deal with that ever lived. At one time it was the biggest Dealership around (10 yrs ago). But the new owner took advantage of ever one that walked on to their lot and for the last 5 yrs nobody will stop at this Dealership they sold out about a month ago to a new dealer but still no one will stop at this dealership I feel sorry for the new owners

About Don't all americans know Lincoln work

Don't all americans know Lincoln work?
In connection with Mr. Obama's using Lincoln Bible in his inauguration to President, VOA reported that President Lincoln is known for his mission to abolish slavery in the mid-19th century. I think mojority of Americans well know that Lincoln's work. Why does VOA bother to mention the fact all Americans know? I am Japanese.
History - 7 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
You'd be surprised how ignorant and uneducated people can be. Most people do know, but I am sure there are some that do not.
Answer 2 :
Because VOA isn't broadcast in America. It is only broadcast for foreigners outside of America, many of whom might not know about Mr. Lincoln's legacy.
Answer 3 :
Voice of America is an international radio network aimed at an audience outside America, so it's aimed at people who might not know about Lincoln. In that role, VOA has a propaganda role to promote America's interests, and aligning Obama with a great historical anti-slavery figure is good psychology.
Answer 4 :
Actually, Lincoln was not really an abolitionist. He once said, and I'm paraphrasing, that if he could save the Union by freeing all the slaves, he would do it. If he could save it without freeing a single slave, he would do that. And if he could save the Union by freeing some slaves and leaving others as they were, he would also do that. On a personal level, Lincoln despised slavery, but he did not, in actuality, see blacks as equals. He explored the idea of sending black slaves to Africa--to Liberia, specifically. People like Frederick Douglass explained to him that most slaves had never been to Africa, that it was as foreign a land to them as to any other American. The Emancipation Proclamation was in large part politically motivated--Lincoln needed to keep England from joining the war on the Southern side, and England would not support slavery. Also, it did not free a single slave, since it only dealt with the slaves in the Confederacy, which were not under his control. He did not free them in the border states, which he could have done, for fear that those states would join the Confederacy. Lincoln is, without a doubt, our greatest President, but his stance on slavery and abolition is widely misunderstood. Edit: You gotta love someone who is giving thumbs-down to detailed, intelligent and fact-based responses.
Answer 5 :
Taro, The American government would dearly love for the world and all Americans to believe that Mr. Lincoln worked to end slavery and was a good and honorable man. Unfortunately, that isn't true and it worries me some that Mr. Obama is idolizing Lincoln so much. Abraham Lincoln was a man who came to power on a pro-northern/anti-Southern platform. His plan was to tax the Southern states heavily and use the money to prop up the northern industrialists and other such things which are illegal according to our Constitution. The Southern states knew this to be illegal and along with a few other reasons, decided it would be in their best interests to exercise their constitutional right to leave the united States and form their own country. That way they could control their own destiny. Many northerners were initially willing to let the South go and start their own country but Mr. Lincoln, when asked why he didn't let the South go. replied "But where would we get our tax money if we let the South go?" So Lincoln called on all the states to send him men for an army to invade the seceding states and force them back into the union at gunpoint. some of the states, like Virginia, Arkansas, and Tennessee, saw this as an illegal activity and decided they would have no part in it so they seceded, too. Then there were 11 states who joined the Confederacy and lincoln still had about 23. Lincoln then claimed that it was illegal for the states to secede and that it was treason, despite claiming that secession was a "sacred right we believe will change the world" about 20 years earlier while he was in Congress. After about 2 years of war, Lincolns side is not faring very well. He needs a moral 'crusade' to turn his illegal war into an acceptable one. He hits on abolition of slavery as the caused. Now, just two years earlier, he said in his inaugural address that he had no intention of interfering with slavery and had no right to do so. But when he was losing the war, he changed his mind. So he issued his "Emancipation Proclamation". The only problem was that it freed slaves where he had no power to do so and kept slaves in bondage where the northern government held power. Remember that the slave states of Maryland, Delaware, west Virginia, Kentucky and Missouri were still with the north. They never seceded. Lincoln didn't free their slaves, only the ones he couldn't get to. The slaves weren't actually freed until passage of the 14th amendment to the u.S. Constitution which didn't happen until after Lincolns death. All Lincoln did was start an illegal war and invade free, sovereign states and kill about half a million people in order to violate the constitution, centralize the government and please the northern industrialists.
Answer 6 :
I will not bother to be wordy in my explanation since others have done so already, but i will say this, Iam ashamed of our public school system in this regard.."most Americans" really do not know much about the real Lincoln. I have recently been reading "Harvard classics, great historical american documents" And the more one studies this subject the more one realizes that most of what they learned in school is 'mythos" and unless one specializes in a topic,,,iam afraid all that is giving for the most part in public school is a slanted outline at best and a crock of crap at worst
Answer 7 :
bookish has it absolutely correct. Shame on the negative rater. Lincoln "who abolished slavery" is good publicity (though for whom I'm not too sure) but it's just plain wrong. Lincoln was a great president for many reasons, but freeing the slaves wasn't one of them

No it won't. A 1991 Continental is FRONT wheel drive. A 1994 Town Car is REAR wheel drive, therefore they are NOT interchangeable.

Lincoln - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I'm not sure exactly what you're saying. Your Lincoln has an air suspension and if it is sagging in the rear the problem is usually a leak in one of the air bags. Is that what you mean by air shocks? Air shocks are something completely different. At any rate if you replace one or more airbags you don't need to replace the compressor or add another line. If you are adding air shocks you will probably need another compressor. The Lincoln system uses ride height to control the compressor. I don't think you would want to use the air suspension compressor to fill a separate set of air shocks. Arnott Industries and Bagmaster are two of the larger companies that supply Lincoln airbags but neither one shows a 1986 Lincoln in their catalog. They only show 1990-current Lincolns
